I will discuss you a real story today about the question Why are Maine Coon cats so friendly?
I’ve had two Maine Coone cats.
My first, I got when I was ten. A woman was giving kittens away at the local mall and I “went to go ask my mother,” returned, selected a kitten, walked home with him and hid him in my laundry bin.
He stayed hidden for about seven minutes. My parents were irate and he was headed to the shelter, but he was just so darn sweet. We named him Temptation.
He was a dog in a cat’s body. He liked belly rubs and cuddles and was simply majestic looking.
When he was 15 and getting on in his years, one day, he went into the woods and never returned. I think he knew it was time and wanted to die with dignity.
Frappocino, the gray one on the left, I suspect was my second Maine Coon, although I will never know for sure, because he was a stray.
In this picture, he was about 8 months old. He didn’t reach his full size until he was two, which is common in Maine Coons. In his awkward stage, his tail was two sizes too big for his body.
He looked like a scrawny teenaged cat with a feather duster attached to his butt.
In time, though, he grew into his tail and developed the ruff of fur around his neck that Coons are known for and was altogether regal.
Frappocino had a great personality and loved people and other animals, but was fearless. One morning an unleashed Rottweiler surprised him while he was sunbathing outside and he jumped up, pounced on the dog and chased him all the way down the street.
Unfortunately, Frappy died just after he turned two, of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is common in Maine Coons.
